Governance at South Nottinghamshire Academy

Our Local Academy Board (LAB) is responsible for governance at the Academy and delivers this by working closely with our Senior Leadership Team (SLT). Our job is to provide strategic direction and help drive improvements in standards through the Academy’s Annual Improvement Plan. In brief, Governors at South Nottinghamshire Academy:

  • Set targets;
  • Set policies to achieve those targets; and.
  • Monitor the outcomes.

Governors carry out this work during LAB termly meetings and in meetings between nominated Link Governors and their SLT colleagues. Nominated Governors also monitor the Academy's finances, Safeguarding and SEND.

Three key documents guide Governors in their work. The Schemes of Delegation document (attached below), which identifies Governors’ day-to-day responsibilities and the relationship between the LAB and the Redhill Academy Trust Executive Board.  The Terms of Reference document (attached below) which identifies the legal responsibilities of the LAB. And the Local Academy Board Handbook (attached below), which summarises how governors must operate and behave.

Our Parent, Staff and Community Governors normally serve a term of four years following approval by the full LAB. However, each year the LAB also elects a Chair and Vice Chair. The Academy’s Clerk to the Governors advises the LAB on points of procedure and law and also minutes meetings. We currently have a vacancy for a Parent Governor. If you are interested in joining our governing body, please see the information and application form below. The closing date for applications is Friday 27th February.
