South Nottinghamshire Academy Sixth Form is driven by a desire to see students ‘aim high’ in life and, as such, actively encourages students to apply to university or advanced apprenticeships.

UCAS is an admissions portal that helps you to explore and apply to courses (undergraduate and apprenticeships) in one place.
UCAS Open Days Search helps you look for open days at the universities you are interested in. Additionally, if you cannot attend there are a list of universities that have virtual tours on the UCAS website
The Uni Guide provides statistical information about universities, including data on what current students studied at A-level and the grades they achieved before admission. Also, the website features reviews from students currently attending the university.

Careers Guidance
We believe that giving students the best careers education is vital for raising aspirations and realising their ambitions.
Whilst in sixth form education, we support students in making well-informed decisions for Post 18 destinations. We ensure high quality, impartial advice on career pathways and a valuable insight into employability and the world of work, using the expertise from our extensive network of employers and other providers.
The majority of our students will progress into University, however each year, we have others who are successful with their applications to prestigious organisations, for Higher and Degree apprenticeship programmes. We are keen to stay in touch with our Alumni and welcome ex-students back to the Academy, to share their journey and to inspire others.
Our careers guidance programme also supports students in gaining first-hand experience of the career fields that interest them. Through mock interviews, future days and preparation for our dedicated Work Experience Week on the week commencing 29th of June, students are encouraged to explore potential career pathways, develop workplace skills and make informed decisions about their future aspirations.

Applying to University
We provide students with a step-by-step guide to the UCAS application process so that you can share this information with parents. Weekly Guidance sessions support with the process, including personal statement workshops. In the Summer term, we have a day off timetable to dedicate time to beginning the online application form and a UCAS information evening for parents.
South Nottinghamshire Academy has a number of experienced UCAS trained advisors who will support the Year 12 and 13 students throughout this time. Students begin their UCAS applications in the Spring term of Year 12. This is when students begin to make decisions about what they would like to study and where they would like to apply. Visits to universities are encouraged in the summer term of Year 12 and we host a number of visits from university representatives as well as holding finance and UCAS evenings for parents.
In September of Year 13, personal statements are completed. It is expected that all students will complete a personal statement, whether applying for university, jobs or apprenticeships by October half term. Support is provided by the Trust, Tutors and Head of Sixth Form for Oxbridge, Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary early applications as well as all other applications.
After half term, the finishing touches are made to the UCAS application process. The fee of £26.50 is funded by the Academy, teachers add their references and students begin to receive their offers and invitations to interview.
The remainder of the year is focused on gaining the right results to ensure that students are on the right courses for September.
Final decisions and confirmation of places are made in August on results day.
