Education and Business Partnership Award Winners

On Friday 13th September 2019, South Nottinghamshire Academy attended the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce (Nottinghamshire) awards. The school was overjoyed when it was presented as winner in the Education and Business Partnership award. In a competitive category, the school was successful against organisations who support young people’s mental health / well-being and adults with learning difficulties. The award was sponsored by Nottingham University Business School.

Dan Philpotts (Headteacher) commented ‘this is a fantastic achievement and a great reward for the work we continue to do that focuses on Business and Work Related learning. As schools, we have a duty to prepare the next generation of young people for the world of work in a market that is continually evolving and will look very different. By developing our student’s employability skills and responding to gaps in the market, we believe that our students have the aspiration, belief and skill set to be successful.’

Louise Caunt (Business Engagement and Careers Leader) added ‘we are thrilled to be winners of this award.  At the heart of the Academy, is an affinity with the world of work.  We have worked hard as a team to bring a whole school approach to careers and work related learning, ensuring that students have a clear understanding of business expectations and future progression opportunities. This award is a testimony to our strong business partnerships, who support our school each year by making a positive impact to student learning and raising aspirations.’

About the awards: Britain’s businesses are the driving force of the UK economy, which is why it is important to recognise and celebrate the contribution made locally in the community and the wider economy. The British Chamber of Commerce’s (BCC) Chamber Awards is one of the most contested and prestigious business awards programmes and in 2018, the East Midlands was crowned Chamber of the Year.
